The work process is one of constant experiment and change, building layers of colour, form and image on the canvas revealing the underlying pentimento. Maureen’s paintings are not planned, they are discovered, in an evolution that is exciting and invigorating. The layers build up to reflect what could be described as an aerial view of vast fields, expressive areas of colour where crops grow far below. In other paintings free-flowing brushstrokes create shapes that blend and form something close to a horizon. Overall there is a sense of wide open space and fresh air that fills the frame as we are placed in the great outdoors
