The Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia is a 780-mile long stretch in the country's Far East. An ideal place, then, for a sport of fast alpine skiing - as this sportsman has discovered. At the moment this shot was taken he's airborne, and the speed at which he zooms through the drifts seems astonishing. His shadow fans away beneath him, highlighting the smooth undulations of the snow, while the spray from the route just taken has yet to subside - a stunning aerial capture!
