Artist: Amanda Renfrey
Hailed as the first female photographer, Anna Atkins was also the first person to use cyanotype printing to capture the beauty of nature. Amanda Renfrey has followed in her historic footsteps to produce these stunning Wild Meadow Flowers. Also known as sun prints, these images are a true labour of love. Using the aged and diverse technique of contact printing, a flower or leaf is pinned to light sensitive paper which is exposed to light, allowing time for the shadow cast to be 'imprinted' into the paper. The image is then bathed to fix the exposure, leaving a delicate, x-ray-like white image against a rich cyan blue background.
